Plugging the skills shortage within the trade & construction industry
This four day sprint taking place at Newcastle Racecourse sprint is open to all equally to come and engage & work with us to solve this challenge!
The shortage of skilled workers within the trade & construction industry is well documented. This ""leak"" of essential frontline skills has many reasons: Ageing workforce, Young people choosing other professions, educational institutions not promoting TRADES as aspiring professions, Geographical restrictions, etc.
However, the demand for construction workers and tradespeople (plumbers, electricians, builders, and civils workers etc.) will significantly increase over AMP8 as the whole Water Sector embarks on a critical but ambitious programme of upgrading, expanding and improving the environmental impact of its infrastructure.
The widening gap between supply and demand will have deleterious effects on the economy and the environment. How will sustainability goals be met if we continue the same way of working?
In this sprint we will explore how an ecosystem of companies can steam this leak. How can utilities, contracting forms, marketplaces & payment facilitators collaborate to create a vibrant and attractive offer to draw skill into the industry? How can we make it easier to find & receive payment for quality work? How can we draw local skills to scale the workforce and achieve AMP8?
